Roam the scenic landscapes of Ambleside and the southern Lakes, with this waterside period cottage in the village of Elterwater as your picture-perfect base. Grasmere, Windermere and Coniston (all within 8 miles) offer boating opportunities, wild swimming spots, water sports hire, historic visitor attractions and plenty of dining or drinking options. Hike up Scafell Pike (9 miles), to Cathedral Cave and Slater’s Bridge (2 miles), or take a more leisurely walk following the riverside trail (starting 100 metres away) eastwards onto Great Langdale Beck and beyond. And if you fancy immersing yourself in a little heritage, drive 6 miles to reach the National Trust’s Wray Castle on the shores of Lake Windemere.
A welcoming lounge/dining room with country cottage decor and an original beamed ceiling is arranged around an open fire, with a table and chairs set up for four guests. This space is complemented by a contemporary country kitchen, providing everything you need to cook meals together. On the first floor, the cottage accommodates two bedrooms – one double with views of the beck and one twin. Both have heated mattress covers for those chilly nights – and there’s a stylish shower room too.
The furnished private patio area at the front of the property is a wonderfully relaxing setting for you to sit and listen to the sounds of Langdale Beck running below.
