Julie GuiverI read a Nat Trust book while on holiday up there last week - The Real World of Beatrix Potter - which had a lovely photo of Beatrix at The Hawkshead Show in the 1930's. She was all tightly buttoned up in her tweeds with felt hat pulled well down on her head. She won prizes for her Herdwick sheep (bred by Tom Storey who worked for her) at the local shows over the years but I loved this part - "Tom Storey was required to attend shows with his employer and relates that when it came to going into the Member's Tent for lunch the ritual was always the same. She'd turn to Tom and say, "I think you'll be wanting to get home won't you Storey?" He would reply, "Yes, I'd like to be going back" - and then the two of them would go off and have lunch in a little teashop round the corner! Love her!1   ·  1 week ago
